Self-Love is THE most important love you can feel or experience. Without it, no other true love is possible. Yet self-love seems to be so elusive for a large portion of our population.
We live in a world that seems to value acting like you love yourself. This is expressed in many ways, most prevalently with selfies on social media. Do you love yourself if you love a photo of yourself? Only if you look at the photo and see yourself as whole and perfect, no matter what your hair or your clothes look like. Loving yourself in any given moment is very different than loving yourself in EVERY moment.
There are many issues from our past that can contribute to our lack of self-love. Some are quite deeply rooted. The good news is that anyone can get there. It just requires diligence, determination, an open heart and some healing work.
With healing work, we can begin to peel away the layers of self-loathing and get to self-love. This is a journey, not a destination. You will continually learn about yourself and why you react the way you do to situations and people. As my friend Sue says, it’s like peeling an onion. One layer at a time.
