Sit Quietly and Connect

Can you sit quietly without being connected to a device?

In today’s crazy, hectic world we are constantly “connected”, but to what? Our cell phones? The TV? Laptop? If we do sit still we are on some sort of device. We are certainly not quiet. Our brains are going a mile a minute.

For me, sitting quietly was almost impossible. There was always something I needed to do. Didn’t the bathroom need to be cleaned, clothes folded, lists made? The last thing my mind wanted was quiet. The quiet was scary. Distraction was much easier. Thankfully there were no cell phones back then or it would have been far worse.

All of this connection to things other than our spirit causes our body and mind stress. Learning to sit quietly, with nothing in your hands, can be transformational. Connecting to your core or center, or your favorite place, in your mind relaxes the nervous system and gives your body some time to heal.

Give it a try. Put your phone, tablet or laptop in the other room. Find a comfortable spot in a comfortable chair, or outside in the fresh air, and just sit and breathe. Your mind will wander. This is normal. It sometimes helps to just focus on breathing in and out. Picture your favorite place and go there in your mind. Breathe in the fresh mountain air or the ocean air… If you can manage to do this for just 5 minutes every day, it will make a difference.

Thanks to my energy healing sessions, I can now sit quietly. No more hopping up to run in the other room and get something done. I just sit quietly and breathe. I do this twice a day for a few minutes and it completely relaxes and calms my mind. It helps me bring my focus back to my body.
